Xbox Game Pass could drop day-one games in 2027

Xbox Game Pass could reportedly stop adding new games on their release day between February and April 2027, according to a ResetEra leak reported by Vice and GamingBolt. Microsoft has not announced these changes.

What the Xbox Game Pass 2027 leak claims

ResetEra user Slayven reportedly shared plans for a simpler-looking service with more features sold separately. The leak claims an ad-supported tier would cost $12.99 per month, while an ad-free option would cost $19.99 monthly or $239.99 annually. The ad-free plan would be $3 cheaper per month than the alleged current price because day-one releases would be removed.

The same report claims that a library tier with online multiplayer would cost $14.99 per month. Multiplayer could also be bought separately for $10.99, while cloud gaming would become a $5.99 add-on with 25 hours of playtime. A family plan is reportedly planned at another $5.99 per month.

None of those prices has been announced for the UAE, and the leak does not establish how Microsoft would convert or localise them. Existing Xbox Game Pass coverage shows why the day-one promise has been central to the service: new releases have been used as the reason to subscribe rather than wait for a sale.

Why day-one games are the key change

Microsoft already confirmed in April that future Call of Duty games would no longer arrive on Game Pass at launch, with releases moving to the service roughly a year later, according to Reuters. The new leak would extend that approach across the wider service rather than limiting it to one major franchise.

The timing and plan structure remain unconfirmed. Nate the Hate said Slayven had previously shared accurate Game Pass information, but added that “whether the intended timeline stays true or slides about, we’ll learn in due time.” Xbox has not said whether it is preparing these tiers, so the February-to-April 2027 window should be treated as a rumour rather than a release schedule.

Microsoft’s recent Xbox Cloud Gaming changes already put limits around streaming access. If this report is accurate, the Xbox Game Pass 2027 plan would move further from one bundled subscription towards separate payments for the library, multiplayer and cloud gaming.
