What Steam Frame does
Steam Frame is a PC running SteamOS on a Snapdragon 8 Series processor. It supports standalone play, with more than 100 games already marked Steam Frame Standalone Verified, while its wireless design can stream the wider Steam library from a PC.
The headset uses dual radios and an included Wi-Fi adapter. Valve is also introducing Foveated Streaming, which uses eye tracking to send the highest-quality VR imagery to the area where the player is looking, and Multi-Link Streaming, which combines the adapter with a home Wi-Fi network.
The package includes wireless controllers and is designed for VR and non-VR games. Valve is also selling a PSU for $29, an Ergonomic Accessories Kit for $59 and an Accessory Replacement Kit for $49. The accessories can only be added at checkout by people who receive a purchase email.
Valve previously used a reservation lottery for the Steam Machine, which it said helped limit resellers and improve the purchase process. Steam Frame uses the same approach, so owning the right amount of patience is not listed as an accessory.
For Valve hardware context, see our coverage of the Steam Machine launch and SteamOS support for the Steam Machine. Pricing and the reservation details are listed on the official Steam Frame page. Valve’s earlier hardware-package reporting is covered by VR.org.
