The GTA 6 actor confirmed the role in an Associated Press interview at the BAFTA TV Tea Party in Beverly Hills. The GameSpot report identifies the role as Brian Heder based on the character’s voice and Root’s earlier comments. He was attending the event for his Emmy-nominated performance as Wyck in Apple’s Widow’s Bay when asked about rumours connecting him to the game.
“Yeah, you’re going to see me in there,” he said. “I think from the first rollout of GTA that they were doing almost a year ago they had my character in there, and there were too many people that knew me from King of the Hill and my voice. So, I think that secret kind of got divulged then.”

Root added: “I’m so happy to be involved with it; it’s an amazing thing to look at.” The actor is known for playing Milton Waddams in Office Space and voicing Bill Dauterive and Buck Strickland in King of the Hill, among many other film and television roles.
The interview does not name Root’s character. GameSpot, IGN and other outlets identify the role as Brian Heder based on the character’s voice and the speculation Root was asked about. That identification is supported by Rockstar’s official character page, which describes Brian as a classic drug runner operating around the Keys.

Brian is a drug runner from the Leonida Keys who still moves product through his boatyard with his third wife, Lori. Rockstar’s profile says he prefers to let other people do the dirty work.
The character is also connected to Jason. Brian lets Jason live rent-free in one of his properties, provided Jason helps with local shakedowns and visits Lori for sangria. A landlord who accepts criminal errands instead of rent is still, technically, running a property business.
Stephen Root’s distinctive voice was heard in earlier GTA 6 footage, including scenes featuring Brian speaking with Jason. Rockstar has not yet formally published a full voice-cast list, and the actors playing Jason and Lucia remain unconfirmed by the studio.
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s official site currently lists the same date, while the game remains absent from PC launch platforms.
