Ubisoft teases Ghost Recon news on August 6 as Wildlands Definitive Edition slips out early

Ubisoft has confirmed Ghost Recon news for August 6 as a Wildlands Definitive Edition quietly appears with a new mission, cosmetics, and 4K/60fps support.

Ubisoft has confirmed it will announce Ghost Recon news on August 6, a date the publisher is framing as the series’ 25th anniversary. The tease arrives just as a Ghost Recon Wildlands Definitive Edition has begun surfacing on store listings, apparently released without a formal announcement.

In a post on the official Ghost Recon account on X, Ubisoft told fans: “It’s been a while Ghosts. We know some of you saw some updates, we’ll have more to say on the 6th of August when we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Ghost Recon. Intel coming soon.” The publisher has not clarified whether the announcement concerns only the Definitive Edition or extends to an entirely new game in the series.

What is the Ghost Recon Wildlands Definitive Edition?

The Definitive Edition is a repackaging of the 2017 open-world shooter that has quietly appeared on certain regions of the Xbox and PlayStation stores, listed for Xbox One and PS4. Ubisoft has not published a full breakdown, so most of what is known comes from storefront text and third-party analysis rather than an official announcement.

According to gHacks, the bundle collects the base game together with the Season Pass, Year 2 Pass, and the Narco Road and Fallen Ghosts expansions, alongside starter and deluxe content. Much of that is not new; Narco Road, Fallen Ghosts, and the deluxe packs were all sold previously. What appears genuinely new is a story mission called Last Rites and two cosmetic packs, Nightfall Protocol and Cold Eye.

A dashboard promotion first shared on Reddit and reported by Video Games Chronicle describes a “major update” covering the Last Rites mission and support for 4K and 60fps gameplay, which implies PS5 and Xbox Series X/S enhancements even though the formal store listings still tag the game as Xbox One and PS4. An image currently hosted on the Microsoft Store states the two cosmetic packs will be added on August 6, tying the update directly to Ubisoft’s announcement date.

Why does the August 6 tease matter?

The August 6 date matters because Ubisoft has left the door open to more than a repackaged old game. Wildlands has not seen a mainline follow-up that landed well: Ghost Recon Breakpoint, the last entry, released in 2019 to a mixed reception, with a Metacritic score of 56. A quiet Definitive Edition doing groundwork ahead of an anniversary reveal is the kind of soft relaunch a publisher runs when it wants attention back on a dormant franchise.

What remains unclear is the substance behind the tease. Ubisoft’s post confirms only that Ghost Recon “intel” is coming; it does not confirm a new game, and the current corroboration for the Definitive Edition’s current-gen enhancements rests on store text and creator breakdowns rather than an official spec sheet. Ubisoft’s own reveal on August 6 is what will settle whether this is a full return or a tidy re-release.
