Japanese Solid Snake voice actor says Konami should make another Metal Gear

Akio Otsuka wants Konami to make a new Metal Gear game, even if Hideo Kojima is not involved. The Japanese voice of Solid Snake still says he does not want to work on a Metal Gear project without the series creator, though, making this an appeal to Konami rather than a promise to return.

Why Otsuka’s Kojima position remains personal

In his Bunshun interview, Otsuka says he took pride in helping build the series with Kojima, who created it. He previously said he did not want to work on a Metal Gear game without the director, then joked that he could not back down after saying so. VGC’s report carries the translated wording.

“I don’t want to do any Metal Gear that doesn’t involve Director Kojima.”

New Metal Gear game: Otsuka wants one for fans

Otsuka’s call for a new Metal Gear game is aimed at the series’ audience. In the English translation by TheGamer, he says fans around the world have waited patiently and asks Konami to make one more title for them.

“For their sake, let’s make one more Metal Gear.”

He adds that Kojima is making his own games, including Death Stranding, so he thinks Konami can continue Metal Gear. Asked whether he had discussed another game with Kojima, Otsuka replied, “I’ll leave that to your imagination.” The exchange confirms no project, Kojima involvement or Otsuka return; the new Metal Gear game he wants remains a request, not an announcement.

Konami’s recent series activity has included Metal Gear Solid Delta’s Fox Hunt multiplayer and the Metal Gear Solid 4 port in Master Collection Vol. 2. Those updates revisit or extend existing entries; Otsuka’s interview does not say a new mainline title is in development.
