The PS5 Slim reportedly has a new internal revision with a replaceable CR2032 CMOS battery, a changed motherboard layout and revised cooling, after console technician Modyfikator89 opened a Wolverine Limited Edition unit, VGC reports.
He identified the board as EDM-051 and described a different heatsink and a newer HDMI retimer. Sony has not announced the changes; the report is based on one console opened by an independent technician, not a public retail notice. Digital Trends also reports on the teardown.
Earlier PS5 Slim CMOS cells sat beneath the main board, while iFixit’s PS5 Pro teardown says the Pro’s battery is accessible after one screw. Modyfikator89 says the new CR2032 can be replaced, but no repair steps or warranty guidance are provided.

PS5 Slim revision: what changed inside
The technician says Sony revised cooling again after the 2025 update. The APU surface and liquid-metal containment look different, closer to the PS5 Pro’s approach, and the heatsink uses different materials. These are teardown observations, not measurements of heat, noise or reliability.
