PS5 OS emulation has reached a visible milestone: a 56-second video posted by Vinas on X on 4 October shows the console’s VSH system interface running on a PC. Kotaku reported the footage on 6 October, describing it as the first public video evidence of the PS5 menu booting in an emulated PC environment. (Vinas on X; Kotaku)

PS5 OS emulation is not a game running on PC

VSH is Sony’s internal codename for the PS5’s menu interface. The clip moves through system setup screens, including language selection and display-area settings, with diagnostic text across the top. It does not show a PS5 game running.

Nor does this mean Sony’s operating system has been ported natively to PC. Kotaku characterises the demonstration as emulation rather than a kernel-level port. The PS5 OS emulation footage shows a system menu, not a game-compatibility test.

What RPCSX says about the scene

RPCSX describes itself as an experimental emulator for PS4 and PS5 on Linux. Its project FAQ says booting VSH on PS4 and PS5 firmware works, while booting games from VSH remains a work in progress. It also says a handful of titles can reach in-game states.

Kotaku reports that the RPCSX team had said VSH booting was feasible earlier in 2026. That project status is context, not confirmation that RPCSX produced Vinas’s video; the clip does not name its emulator or build.

Tbreak has separately covered SharpEmu’s reported 60fps tests across six PS5 games and KytyPS5 reaching GTA V’s menus and showing Quake II gameplay. Those reports concern other projects and game-level progress. This video demonstrates the PS5 system interface, not playable games.

Is the video confirmed to use RPCSX?

No. Kotaku reports RPCSX’s earlier comments about VSH booting, but neither the article nor Vinas’s X post identifies the emulator used for this clip.

Can someone reproduce the demo from this video?

The clip is not a setup guide. It does not identify a reproducible emulator build, firmware version, PC hardware configuration or installation steps.
