The UAE PlayStation Store maintenance begins today, 5 October, as Sony switches the UAE storefront from US dollars to dirhams. Sony’s support guide schedules the work from 5 to 8 October and says purchases will be unavailable while the store is offline. It has not given a restoration time for 8 October.

After the update, prices, charges and receipts will appear in AED, and purchases will again be available through the supported payment methods. Sony says UAE account holders do not need to change their accounts. The UAE PlayStation Store announcement covers the wider regional switch; this guide adds the wallet and account details for UAE users.

UAE PlayStation Store maintenance: what changes to dirhams

Sony will convert existing UAE wallet funds at US$1 = AED 4.00, rounding up to the nearest decimal value supported by the store. That is the wallet-conversion rate, not a promise that every game or subscription will simply cost four times its current dollar price. The support guide says subscription renewals due during maintenance will continue and payment will be taken after the work is complete. It also warns that recurring subscription costs may differ slightly after conversion.

Existing US-dollar PlayStation gift cards will remain valid. Cards redeemed after maintenance is complete will be converted to dirhams using the same formula as wallet funds. The company will also adjust PlayStation Stars points to reflect the currency change.

PS3 purchases and child-account limits

Once maintenance is complete, the UAE PlayStation Store will no longer allow new purchases from PlayStation 3 consoles. Sony’s guide refers to purchases; it does not say that content already bought will be removed. This is separate from the temporary outage. Tbreak’s PS3 and PS Vita Store closure guide has the broader platform timeline.

Parents who set a monthly spending limit on a child account will need to set it up again after the change. Sony also says it will pause promotions for a short period. Its support page still lists 23 September 2026 as the expected return date, which has already passed; it gives no updated date.

Khaleej Times also reported the 5–8 October maintenance window and the end of PS3 store payments in the UAE. Sony’s guide is more specific about the AED wallet conversion and says the PS3 purchase restriction begins after maintenance is complete.

Does the AED 4.00 rate set the price of every game?

No. Sony gives AED 4.00 per US dollar for wallet-balance conversion; its guide does not say individual game prices will be converted at that rate.

Will existing PS3 purchases be removed?

Sony’s guide says new PS3 Store purchases will stop after maintenance. It does not say previously bought content will be removed.
