PS5 Pro beta update turns on PSSR 2.0 for every game by default

Sony’s August system software beta turns Enhanced PSSR on by default for every PS5 Pro game. The update, rolling out to beta program participants via email invite, means the improved upscaler now runs across the entire catalogue automatically — no settings hunt required.

The patch notes put it plainly:

We’ve turned on Enhance PSSR Image Quality as a default setting. When you update the system software, this setting automatically turns on. When you enable this feature, enhanced PSSR is used even for games that support the previous version of PSSR so you can enjoy a sharper and clearer visual experience.

Every game built for the original PSSR now gets the 2.0 treatment by default, which is to say a sharper, clearer image without anyone touching a single setting. The feature itself is not new: Sony introduced PSSR 2.0 in March 2026 alongside Resident Evil: Requiem, but the toggle sat in Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output — exactly where most owners may never look.

The original PSSR launched with the PS5 Pro in November 2024 and had a rough start. High-fidelity titles such as Silent Hill 2, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Alan Wake 2 suffered from ghosting, shimmering and blurry visuals. Sony has been iterating since — a handful of games, from Doom: The Dark Ages to Spider-Man 2, have already shipped upgraded PSSR support.

Anyone who prefers the old behaviour can switch the setting off again under Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality. The toggle is PS5 Pro only.

The beta also touches the base PS5. Selecting Turn Off Bluetooth under Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings now disables rest mode and HDMI link — a change aimed at esports venues that need to manage controller connections. The patch notes otherwise promise the usual performance and stability improvements.

Sony has not said when the feature leaves beta. For now, the upgrade just happens on its own.
