Kena: Scars of Kosmora will launch in 2027 for PS5 and PC, Ember Lab said in a new PlayStation Blog post. The game was previously planned for 2026, and the studio says the extra time will help polish a larger adventure. A GamingBolt report also notes the change from the earlier window.
For Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Ember Lab has not announced a month or day, price, or any other platforms. The sequel will be sold physically and digitally on PS5, with a digital release on PC. Its February reveal had placed the game in 2026.
Kena: Scars of Kosmora release date and platforms
Ember Lab said it wants to exceed the quality of its 2021 debut, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, while developing a much larger game.
“Pushing our release into 2027 gives us the ability to really polish the expanded game experience we want to deliver.”

The studio has not tied the new window to a specific season or date. The February announcement confirmed PS5 and PC; the new post clarifies that PS5 will have both physical and digital editions while PC will be digital-only.
Kena’s past drives the story on Kosmora
Kena has spent years as a Spirit Guide, helping the dead move on by confronting the Corruption created by their pain. In the sequel, she is also trying to understand what it means to help the living and reckon with parts of her own past she has left unattended. Her childhood friend Orfio believes the island of Kosmora may hold answers for both of them.

Kosmora is home to several living cultures, each with its own history and struggles. The island’s ancient Spirit Guides once organised their societies around four elements and built Alchemystic Temples. A mysterious cataclysm destroyed one of those cultures, while knowledge of the elements has faded elsewhere. Ember Lab says the temples will be dungeon experiences with challenges and transformative rewards that propel Kena’s adventure.
A larger adventure, not an open world
The developers describe Scars of Kosmora as a “character-focused linear adventure” with a broader and deeper scope than Bridge of Spirits. They say players who leave the main route will find more to explore, but have not described the game as open world. The studio is promising more room to explore within a linear format, rather than an open-world shift.
Kena’s crystalline canine companion is one of the ways the island’s greater scale feeds into play. Ember Lab says the spirit can carry Kena, assist in combat both mounted and on foot, and help solve Alchemystic puzzles. The creature is also tied to the island’s origin, giving the new companion a role in the story as well as in traversal.
The February reveal focused on Kena’s staff, elemental abilities and spirit companions. The new overview puts those systems into a story about Kena’s own limits and the island’s cultures shaped by elemental traditions. It also positions the temples as a major part of the sequel rather than a scenic backdrop.
For now, 2027 is the only confirmed timing. Ember Lab has not announced when the next gameplay trailer will arrive, and platform details remain limited to PS5 and PC.
Is Kena: Scars of Kosmora an open-world game?
Ember Lab has not called it open world. It describes a character-focused linear adventure with areas to explore off the main route, but has not detailed how free exploration or the map will work.
Can new players start with Kena: Scars of Kosmora?
Ember Lab has not said the first game is required. In its February announcement, the studio said it was shaping the story for both returning players and people new to Kena’s world.
Has Kena: Scars of Kosmora got a specific 2027 release date?
No month or day has been announced. The confirmed window is 2027, so players will need a later update for a more precise date.
Are the Spirit Guide temples optional?
Ember Lab has not said whether every temple is mandatory. It describes the temples as a major part of the game’s dungeons, with challenges and transformative rewards.
