Metro Redux gets a free next-gen update on PC on October 22, followed by PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 29. The Metro Redux update covers Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, adding 4K textures, higher-quality audio and platform-specific support. Deep Silver says existing owners will receive it at no extra cost.

What the Metro Redux update adds
The update is not a remake or a full remaster. Deep Silver says it keeps the original Redux experience and aesthetic, while improving animation fidelity, audio quality and environmental detail. It also brings 4K textures to all platforms, alongside community-led bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
The console version adds higher-quality lighting, shadows and particle effects, plus hardware tessellation and displacement at runtime. DualSense Adaptive Triggers are supported on PlayStation, while Xbox players get Impulse Triggers. The update also adds a Power Saver Mode on PlayStation and Power Optimized Mode on Xbox.
| Platform | Announced additions | |
|---|---|---|
| PC | 4K textures, DLSS, spatial audio, community bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements | |
| PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro | Native support, PSSR on PS5 Pro, Adaptive Triggers, Power Saver Mode | |
| Xbox Series X\ | S | Native support, TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing on Series X, Spatial Audio, Impulse Triggers, Power Optimized Mode, Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Handheld support |
Deep Silver lists console targets of true 4K at 60 frames per second or upscaled 4K at 120fps when paired with suitable display hardware. The announcement does not break those modes down by console model, so players should wait for the full patch notes before assuming a specific resolution or frame-rate option applies to every machine. GamingBolt’s report also notes the platform-specific upscaling features: PSSR on PS5 Pro and TSR upscaling with anti-aliasing on Xbox Series X.
For PC, the announced additions are DLSS, spatial audio and the bug fixes and quality-of-life work. Deep Silver has not yet published PC frame-rate targets or a complete technical breakdown. The publisher says detailed patch notes covering the changes on each platform will arrive when the update launches.
When the Metro Redux update arrives
The two games do not update on the same day across every platform. PC owners can install the update first, on October 22. Console owners on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S get it a week later, on October 29.
| Release date | Platforms | |
|---|---|---|
| October 22, 2026 | PC: Steam, Epic Games Store and Windows Store | |
| October 29, 2026 | PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X\ | S |
The upgrade is free for people who already own Metro 2033 Redux or Metro: Last Light Redux on the listed stores and consoles. Deep Silver’s announcement does not describe a separate paid next-gen edition; it presents the changes as updates for existing owners. The two titles remain separate games, so ownership applies to the game being updated.
Metro Redux returns ahead of Metro 2039
Deep Silver says the wider Metro franchise has sold 50 million copies worldwide. That is a sales figure for Metro games across the series, not a player count or a total for the two Redux editions alone. The publisher gives no breakdown by game or platform. It is presenting the update as a chance for returning players to revisit the earlier games and for new players to catch up before the next release.
Metro 2039 is due on February 4, 2027, according to Deep Silver’s announcement. We covered the game’s first trailer and reveal during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026. The Redux update arrives several months ahead of it, giving the older entries a new round of platform support without changing their underlying presentation.
Will every console model get the same 4K and 120fps options?
The announcement gives console targets but does not map each mode to each console model. It also conditions 120fps on a suitable display; the complete patch notes at launch should clarify the final breakdown.
Does the update add new story missions?
Deep Silver has not announced new missions or campaign changes. It describes technical, audio, platform-support and quality-of-life improvements while keeping the original Redux experience and aesthetic.
