Amazon blocks Meta Muse from shopping on Amazon on behalf of users, saying the personal AI agent accessed its store without permission and did not identify itself while browsing. Users trying to shop on Amazon through Muse began seeing a message saying:

Amazon’s objection is not simply that another company is using an automated browser. The company told GeekWire that third-party applications making purchases on customers’ behalf should operate transparently and respect a service provider’s decision on whether to participate. Amazon said it had asked Meta to remove Amazon from Muse, but Meta did not agree.
Amazon’s own shopping tools make the dispute more awkward. Its Buy for Me feature lets some US customers find products from other brand websites and ask Amazon to complete the purchase on their behalf. Amazon says the feature identifies itself to merchants and gives them a way to opt out, while Muse is being treated as an unauthorised visitor.
The dispute follows Amazon’s legal fight with Perplexity over its Comet browser. Amazon won a preliminary injunction in March, but the Ninth Circuit ruled in August that the user, rather than the AI company, was the party accessing Amazon’s computers under federal anti-hacking law. Amazon blocks Meta Muse from one of the largest online shops in the US as the legal dispute continues. The court left contract and terms-of-service claims available, and Amazon’s message to Muse users points to those Conditions of Use.
