xAI has launched Grok 4.7, a new model for coding and knowledge work, through its API, Cursor and Grok Build. The company is charging $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, putting it well below the listed rates of leading Western frontier models.
Grok 4.7 focuses on longer coding tasks
According to xAI’s announcement, Grok 4.7 uses a larger base model than Grok 4.6 and a longer reinforcement-learning run aimed at tasks that take hours to complete. xAI says it is better at checking its own work, managing longer context and creating documents and presentations.
The company also trained the model to understand the harness used by Grok Bot. It says that should improve conversational tasks and general knowledge work, although those claims come from xAI rather than an independent test.
The launch follows Grok 4.6’s arrival in Cursor, which made xAI’s coding push more visible to developers. Grok 4.7 is available today in Cursor and Grok Build, with access also offered through third-party coding harnesses, model routers and cloud platforms.
Grok is also already being rolled out to eligible Tesla cars in the UAE, although that in-car version is a separate consumer-facing deployment from this developer launch. Tesla’s UAE rollout does not establish that the Grok 4.7 API is available locally.
Grok 4.7 benchmarks trail the frontier leaders
The price is easier to verify than the performance claim. The Decoder’s report cites Artificial Analysis’ Intelligence Index, where Grok 4.7 scores 46, compared with 53 for Claude Fable 5.1 and GPT-6.
On Terminal-Bench 4.0, an agentic coding test, Grok 4.7 scores 26 percent. GPT-6 Astra reaches 60 percent and Claude Fable 5.1 reaches 55 percent. The figures do not make Grok 4.7 a benchmark leader, but they do show what xAI is trading on: a lower price for a model that may be good enough for many coding workloads.
The API price converts to about AED 7.35 per million input tokens and AED 22.04 per million output tokens at the dirham’s fixed dollar peg. Those are conversions, not UAE prices, and xAI has not announced a UAE-specific rate.
xAI also offers a faster variant at twice the output speed and twice the price. Grok 4.7 is therefore a cheaper option with a clear performance caveat, rather than a straightforward replacement for the most capable models.
