Grok 4.6 is live inside Cursor, and SpaceXAI has completed the $60 billion all-stock acquisition of Anysphere, the company behind the editor. The deal, reported as the largest startup acquisition on record, was announced in June and closed on August 14.
The acquisition had been signposted for months. SpaceX signed a $10 billion partnership with Cursor in April, including the option to buy the company; it exercised that option on June 16, a week after its stock-market debut. The two firms had been training models together since — Grok 4.5, released in July, was a joint effort, and tbreak has covered the road to Grok 4.6 and 4.7. We covered the deal when it was announced.

Grok 4.6 itself landed two days before the close. It builds on Grok 4.5 with a focus on long-running agents and ambitious interactive and visual work, and it scores 61 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index — level with GPT-5.6 Sol Max, behind only Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5 and Fable 5.
Grok 4.6 matches GPT-5.6 on the index — and trails it where it counts
The gains over Grok 4.5 are the clearer signal: five points on the AA Index, and near-doubling on DeepSWE 1.1 and Terminal-Bench. Grok 4.6 posts 69.9% on CursorBench 3.2 and 61.3% on FrontierCode 1.1, close to Fable 5 Max’s 70.5% and 63.6%. It edges GPT-5.6 Sol Max on APEX-Agents (57.5% to 56.7%), but OpenAI still leads on DeepSWE (73% to 65.9%) and Terminal-Bench (34.6% to 26%). VentureBeat’s analysis is that the results show a substantial upgrade over Grok 4.5 more clearly than across-the-board superiority over its rivals.
The price is the pitch
API pricing starts at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output — under half what GPT-5.6 Sol standard mode commands at $5 and $30. Aggressive pricing has been Grok’s habit since the Grok 4.3 review undercut OpenAI on API rates. SpaceXAI is doubling included usage in Cursor and Grok Build for the first week.
A three-way war for the coding default
The coding-AI market now runs on three vertically integrated stacks: SpaceXAI owns Cursor, OpenAI owns Codex, Anthropic owns Claude Code. Grok Bot, launched August 11, extends the same models into agents that operate apps for a reported $120 a month. UAE developers and startups get more frontier choice inside the same tools, at prices that keep falling.
Grok 4.6 is available today in Cursor and Grok Build, in the SpaceXAI API, and through OpenRouter, Vercel and Cloudflare.
