Apple is positioning the iPhone as an “intelligent personal hub”, and Bloomberg’s latest reporting suggests the company is preparing a second one for the home. The long-rumoured Apple Home Hub would give Siri AI a permanent place to control devices, surface personal information and play media around the house.
The strategy was outlined by Apple chief executive John Ternus during the company’s latest keynote, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. That turns the rumoured hardware from another smart display into a physical front end for Apple’s wider AI push.
Apple Home Hub could make Siri the centre of the home
The device is reportedly being tested internally under the code name J490. AppleInsider, citing the same Bloomberg report, describes a square-ish display that could sit on a speaker base or attach to a wall with magnets. Apple has not announced the product, and there is no confirmed release date.
The reported software would be built around Siri AI. A home screen, widgets and clock faces would sit alongside controls for connected devices, video calls and media. The hub could also pull information from a user’s other Apple devices and accounts, then handle more specific requests than the current HomePod range.
Apple is also said to be testing facial recognition for personalising what appears on the display, without using a Face ID-style depth-sensing system. That could allow the hub to show different information to different people in the same home, although the feature remains part of the report rather than a confirmed Apple specification.
What the Apple Home Hub would need to prove
Apple’s home hardware has spent years orbiting the HomePod, Apple TV and Home app without becoming a central household computer. A dedicated display would give Siri a visible interface and let Apple compete more directly with Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub, but its usefulness will depend on Siri AI doing more than answering questions.
That is especially relevant in the UAE, where Apple Intelligence and Siri AI support has arrived with language limitations. Apple’s current software rollout has not included Arabic, so a home device built around the same assistant would initially be most useful to households comfortable using supported languages.
The Apple Home Hub has no announced UAE price, release date or local availability. For now, J490 is a reported internal project, not a product on Apple’s regional storefront.
