Meta AI now has a dedicated Mac app, and it is happy to look at what you are working on.
The Meta AI Mac app, announced on Wednesday, is a beta that lets the chatbot see a shared window, take dictation across any app and pull documents from Google Workspace. Based on what is on screen, it can answer questions, make suggestions or create content.
What the Meta AI Mac app can do
Share a window with the app and it will advise on what you have open. The same session can generate an Instagram post, a deck or a spreadsheet from what it sees.
Meta is positioning the app at businesses and creators. Alongside the Mac launch, Meta AI can work directly with Instagram and Facebook accounts, Meta ad campaigns and Google Workspace — analysing a post’s reach, likes, shares and saves to suggest what to publish next, and handling recurring tasks such as weekly performance updates.
Google Workspace access requires a professional Facebook or Instagram account. Meta AI stays free to use, with Meta One plans available to raise rate limits.
Dictation is built in and works across all apps, so anything you can type, you can say instead.
The launch is part of Meta’s push to make its chatbot a productivity assistant, catching up with rivals that already live on the desktop. Gemini supports window sharing on macOS, while ChatGPT and Claude go further, letting their assistants take control of the computer. Meta’s version reads what you share; it stops short of acting on it.
One caveat for businesses tempted to feed it their accounts: Meta’s privacy policy says interactions with its AI features are used to train its models.
What it means for the UAE
Meta AI has been available in the UAE since the assistant’s Middle East rollout in February 2025, and the Mac app gives UAE users another desktop option alongside ChatGPT and Gemini. For small businesses running their Instagram and Facebook accounts from a Mac, the window-sharing and analytics features are the ones worth testing first.
