CD Projekt Red says The Witcher 4 choices will be deliberately difficult to read, with consequences designed to stay with players after they have put the controller down. The comments came from joint CEO Adam Badowski during the International Festival of Comics and Games in Łódź, according to Wccftech’s report of remarks relayed by the Wiedzminlandia Facebook page.

Badowski said the studio’s long development times are tied to the amount of work put into the story. The narrative is rewritten throughout production to maximise its emotional impact and avoid a hollow result, he said. That process will feed directly into the next game’s moral decisions.

CD Projekt Red has not explained how those choices will work in practice, or whether they will branch into different endings. Badowski’s description points to the same morally grey approach that shaped The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but it does not confirm any specific plotline, character fate or quest structure.

The Witcher 4 choices are being built for consequences

The wording is consistent with CD Projekt Red’s established RPG design: decisions are often presented without a clean heroic answer, while their effects can surface much later. In this case, the studio is promising emotional weight rather than simply a larger number of dialogue branches.

What CD Projekt Red has not shown yet

The game is still targeting 2028, with Ciri leading a new Witcher saga. CD Projekt Red has said more than 500 developers are working on it, although the company has not announced a final release date. GamesRadar reported the 2028 target in August, while Wccftech’s report covers Badowski’s newer comments.

The panel also offered only a brief update on combat, described as an evolution of The Witcher 3’s system, and repeated that the game is being built in Unreal Engine 5. A remake of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was mentioned as a possibility, but there is no announcement or confirmed development plan.

For now, The Witcher 4 choices are a statement of intent rather than a feature breakdown. The studio is asking players to wait until 2028, then make decisions they may spend the rest of the evening regretting.
