Insomniac Games is hiring for a project built around more than one playable hero, and the rumoured X-Men game is the leading candidate. Insider Gaming reports that several new Insomniac job listings describe a third-person game with multiple playable characters. None of them names X-Men or any other Marvel title.

The clearest signal is the Staff Hero Designer role. According to a copy of the listing on Glassdoor, Insomniac wants someone focused on combat, traversal and the “3Cs” (camera, character, controls) for “an upcoming project”. The hire would be accountable for design and execution of “one or more playable characters”. That wording leaves room for a single-hero game, but Insider Gaming counts the plural “characters” four times in the listing, which it reads as a sign of an ensemble cast. The listing also lists allies among the systems the designer would own, alongside abilities, progression and game balance.

Insider Gaming’s case for X-Men rests on elimination. Rumoured Insomniac projects such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 and Marvel’s Venom would likely centre on one lead character. Reports from 2023 leaks also pointed to an X-Men game from the studio, with a possible release window around 2030. That matches the length of the hiring push, though it remains unconfirmed.

According to Insider Gaming, two other listings point the same way. A Senior Combat Designer role covers enemy AI, mini-bosses and large-scale boss encounters. A Senior Gameplay Programmer role calls for “a heavy focus on enemy, boss and ally behaviors”. Together they describe a combat-led action game built on the same foundations as the studio’s earlier Marvel work, with allies given more weight than usual. How many heroes players could control, and how the missions would rotate between them, isn’t answered by any of the listings.

The contrast with Insomniac’s current Marvel release is the interesting part. Marvel’s Wolverine has exactly one playable character and is a linear adventure, so a roster-based game would be a real change of structure for the studio. Insider Gaming also notes the listings could describe a different project, or that Insomniac could be running more than one game with multiple heroes. Until the studio or Sony says more, treat the X-Men link as informed speculation.

Has Insomniac confirmed an X-Men game?

No. The job listings refer only to “an upcoming project”, and the X-Men connection comes from Insider Gaming’s reading of them and from earlier leaks.

Will the next Insomniac game have multiple playable characters?

The listings suggest it might, but they ask for experience with “one or more” playable characters, so a single-hero game isn’t ruled out. Insider Gaming reads the repeated plural wording and the focus on allies as pointing to several heroes.

When could an Insomniac X-Men game arrive?

No date has been announced. Reports from 2023 leaks suggested a window around 2030, and that remains unconfirmed.
