The Witcher 4 will get a physical edition with a box and collectible extras even if Sony’s plans leave the game without a disc, CD Projekt Red joint CEO Michał Nowakowski told The Game Business, in comments reported by IGN.

The Witcher 4 physical edition will still have a box
Nowakowski said CD Projekt Red has no control over Sony’s manufacturing policy. If PlayStation disc production stops as announced, The Witcher 4 could launch without a physical game disc. The box itself, however, is still planned.
“But we’re big fans of people having access to tangible collectible things. We’re nerds ourselves, and we like that. We always supported that. So, whatever is the case, we’re going to be for sure having a box. We’re going to have a box that’s going to have some feelies in it. Something you’re going to be wanting to open up and enjoy.”

Sony’s official announcement says new games released on PlayStation from January 2028 will be sold digitally through the PlayStation Store and at retailers. Games released before that date are not affected by the change. Polygon also reports that CD Projekt Red intends to produce a boxed version with collectible items.
What could be inside the box?
CD Projekt Red’s previous boxed releases offer a rough guide. Standard editions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 included items such as stickers, maps, postcards and letters from the developers. The studio has not announced the contents of The Witcher 4 box, so those older bundles are context rather than a confirmed list.
The Witcher 4 physical edition has no confirmed launch date because the game itself has no release date. CD Projekt Red has previously targeted 2028 for the game, which would place its launch in the same period as Sony’s planned disc-production cutoff. The Ciri-led sequel is in development for the target platforms, but the final format of its physical edition remains unconfirmed beyond the box and collectible extras.
