CD Projekt has set a Witcher 4 release date target of 2028, its first concrete window for the sequel since the project was announced at The Game Awards 2024.
The update arrived in a video shared ahead of Gamescom 2026, in which co-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed the game will not appear at the show and is not getting an exact date. VGC reported his remarks.
“So while we’re not showing The Witcher 4 at the event and we’re not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this: The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window.”

Nowakowski said more than 500 developers are working on the game, which he called the biggest, boldest and most ambitious title CD Projekt has attempted. The new saga puts Ciri at the helm, after she spent The Witcher 3 as its deuteragonist.
The Witcher 4 release date: what we know
The 2028 window is the first official date information CD Projekt has offered since the reveal. The Witcher 4 was announced at The Game Awards 2024 with a cinematic trailer showing Ciri taking a witcher contract in a remote village, and is being built on a custom version of Unreal Engine 5 in collaboration with Epic Games.
In June 2025, CD Projekt showed a tech demo it said was representative of how the game will run on a base PS5, at 60fps with ray tracing — though it later stressed the footage was “a tech demo, and a first look at the cutting-edge technology powering The Witcher 4 – but not The Witcher 4 itself”. We tested the RTX 5090 mega geometry demo when it shipped.
The studio has previously said The Witcher 4 needs to win back players after Cyberpunk 2077’s launch. The game is confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and will appear on UAE storefronts — including the PlayStation Store and Steam — when it arrives. No price has been announced.
