Samsung foldables 2027 will reportedly number five, up from three this year, after the wide-format Galaxy Z Fold8 proved a hit out of the gate. Korean outlet ET News reports Samsung has started two wide-foldable development projects for next year’s Galaxy Z9 series and briefed its suppliers.

Samsung foldables 2027: the five-model line-up
Per ET News and leaker Ice Universe, the range spans the Galaxy Z Flip 9, the Z Fold 9, the Z Fold 9 Ultra, a second wide-format Z Fold model and the second-generation Galaxy Z TriFold. Two of the five are “wide” designs — screens wider than they are tall when unfolded.
The second wide model is at the inception stage, with no concrete specs. ET News says it is being planned around a screen ratio optimised for video rather than the Fold8’s 4:3 — closer to the cinematic 21:9 of films and television. It is the model to watch if you care about black bars.
Why Samsung is doubling down on wide
The Fold8, whose inner display is wider than it is tall, took 70% of the Z8 series’ Korean pre-orders and helped the series set a Samsung record of 1.44 million pre-orders, up 39% on the previous generation’s 1.09 million. Samsung has also raised Fold8 production targets for this year by a million units, per GSMArena.
The TriFold is back too. The original launched as an experimental device with limited availability; the second generation is expected to reach more markets, though a wider release is unlikely to mean a lower price.
ET News’ sources see one risk: the new wide model must pull in buyers who have never owned a foldable, not poach the Fold8’s. If the two wide phones simply cannibalise each other, the market does not grow.
What it means if you’re shopping for a foldable in the UAE
Samsung dominates the UAE foldable segment, and the wide Fold8 landed here in August at AED 7,199 for 256GB. A five-model line-up would spread prices from the Flip 9 up through the Fold 9 Ultra and TriFold.
Nothing is confirmed, and 2027 pricing is unknown; whether the TriFold reaches the UAE depends on availability plans Samsung has not shared. Foldables have already overtaken the Galaxy S line in the UAE, and Samsung’s lead in the category looks safe through 2026.

What is a ‘wide’ foldable?
A foldable whose unfolded screen is wider than it is tall. The Galaxy Z Fold8’s 4:3 display is the current example; the rumoured second wide model would use a ratio closer to cinematic 21:9, optimised for video.
Is Samsung discontinuing the Galaxy Z Flip?
No — the Z Flip 9 is part of the reported 2027 line-up, despite earlier rumours that Samsung might retire the clamshell range.
When will Samsung’s 2027 foldables launch?
Samsung has announced nothing. The Z series has launched in July for the past several years, so a mid-2027 unveiling is the usual expectation — treat it as a rumour until Samsung confirms.
