OpenAI has launched GPT-6 Astra, a new model for computer use, software engineering, cybersecurity, science and professional work. OpenAI says GPT-6 Astra is rolling out first to a limited group of organisations before reaching ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, the API, Microsoft Azure and Amazon Bedrock.

GPT-6 Astra is built to operate computers

OpenAI says GPT-6 Astra can fill in online forms, update CRM records, organise calendars, research the web and draft the results into documents or email. It can also build websites, games and applications, then check that the work functions as intended. The company says its updated Codex harness can complete tasks 1.9 times faster than the current GPT-5.6 Sol experience on Mind2Web.

The model is also aimed at work that usually requires several tools and a patient human. OpenAI says GPT-6 Astra can produce documents, presentations, spreadsheets and analyses that follow an existing template and visual style. The Verge’s report and OpenAI’s launch announcement describe it as an enterprise model, with coding and agentic work at the centre of the launch.

GPT-6 Astra and the AGI question

OpenAI’s announcement uses the language of a new generation of intelligence. During a briefing, president Greg Brockman said he believed the company may now be in the AGI era, although the term still has no single accepted test or threshold. The model’s headline results include 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3, 100% on ExploitBench and 96.0% on GPQA Diamond, all from OpenAI’s own testing and configurations.

Cybersecurity access will be more restricted. OpenAI says GPT-6 Astra meets its Critical cybersecurity capability threshold and can identify and develop exploits in controlled evaluations. The launch version will refuse more advanced offensive requests, while broader defensive access is planned through OpenAI Daybreak.

For UAE businesses, the immediate question is access rather than a local price. OpenAI has not published UAE pricing for GPT-6 Astra. The model’s availability through the API, Azure and Bedrock should give regional developers several routes to test it once their accounts receive access, but that does not confirm a UAE-specific rollout date. OpenAI’s earlier security model was limited to vetted teams, while the company’s Hugging Face incident prompted tighter monitoring.
