Insomniac Games says the strange bathroom sign circulating online is a texture bug, not evidence that Marvel’s Wolverine contains AI-generated assets.

The sign appears to show overlapping or duplicated stick figures on a restroom marker. The episode briefly raised questions about Wolverine AI-generated assets before Insomniac explained the fault. A TikTok clip featuring the glitch passed 700,000 views, according to Kotaku’s report, while screenshots shared on X also drew hundreds of thousands of views.

Marvel’s Wolverine bathroom sign showing the reported UV map texture bug

Wolverine AI-generated assets? Insomniac says no

James Stevenson, Insomniac’s community and marketing director, replied to the post that triggered the speculation. “This is a UV map bug, and we have a fix coming. There are no AI-generated assets in Marvel’s Wolverine,” he wrote, as quoted by Kotaku.

A UV map controls how a 2D texture is placed on a 3D model. If those coordinates are wrong, artwork can stretch, repeat or overlap on the surface. That fits the sign’s shifting appearance across the screenshots, although Insomniac has not said when the fix will arrive.

The incident comes as the PS5 game is already being closely examined following its 15 September launch. PlayStation lists Marvel’s Wolverine as a PS5 exclusive, developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with Marvel Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

A bug, not a production method

The clarification addresses this specific bathroom sign and Insomniac’s statement that Marvel’s Wolverine has no AI-generated assets. It does not amount to a wider technical breakdown of every tool used during production, but there is no evidence in the supplied reporting that the game uses generated artwork.

Insomniac has already said it plans to refine the player experience after launch, following the backlash covered in its earlier Wolverine update. The sign should be a small repair when it arrives; it has simply received a larger audience than most bathroom signage manages.

The game’s wider reception has also been tracked in our review-score report, but this particular issue is a rendering fault rather than a new gameplay complaint.
