Marvel’s Wolverine has sold an estimated 1.9 million copies in its first three days, generating about $130 million despite a noisy backlash around Insomniac’s PS5 game.
The figures come from Alinea Analytics, which says the estimate includes 1 million digital pre-orders and that 22.9% of revenue came from physical sales. Sony has not announced an official sales total, so these figures should be treated as an industry estimate rather than a company-reported result.

Marvel’s Wolverine sales pass Death Stranding 2 on PS5
Alinea’s estimate puts Marvel’s Wolverine ahead of Death Stranding 2’s reported lifetime PS5 total of 1.8 million copies and $129 million in revenue. It also makes Wolverine the strongest-performing new PlayStation Studios release on PS5 this year in the analysis, ahead of MLB The Show, Marathon, Saros and Marvel Tōkon.
The comparison comes with some limits. Alinea’s figures are estimates, and the analysis uses sold-through copies rather than unsold stock shipped to retailers. The totals also cover different games, platforms and release windows, so they are best read as an early launch snapshot rather than a final ranking.
Why the online backlash has not stopped Wolverine
Marvel’s Wolverine launched on September 15 as a PS5 exclusive. Its critical response has been mixed: the game sits at a 77 Metascore, making it Sony’s lowest-scoring PS5 first-party release so far, while players have criticised its linear structure, handholding and repetitive combat. Insomniac has said it is gathering feedback, but has not announced a patch or specific changes.
Alinea’s audience data suggests the buyers are broader than the online conversation. The US accounts for 53% of its player base, followed by the UK at 7%, France at 5% and Canada at 4%. The largest overlaps include Fortnite, Marvel Rivals, Spider-Man 2, GTA 5, Roblox, NBA 2K27 and FC 26 — a mix that points towards a mainstream audience rather than only critics and enthusiast forums.
The estimate does not put Wolverine on Spider-Man 2’s launch level. Alinea says Insomniac’s previous Marvel game generated about $250 million in its first three days, almost twice Wolverine’s total. The newer game still has holiday sales, new PS5 owners and future Marvel film marketing ahead of it, but its longer tail may depend on how far the mixed reception travels beyond launch-week discussion.
For now, Marvel’s Wolverine is selling faster than the discourse around it would suggest. The first three days are a strong start; they are not yet a verdict on the game’s lifetime performance.
PlayStation’s official Marvel’s Wolverine page confirms the game is available exclusively on PS5.
