Bill Skarsgård will play the lead character in Hideo Kojima’s PHYSINT, the upcoming action-espionage game now being published by Xbox. Kojima confirmed the casting during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast, ending one small mystery in a project that has accumulated several larger ones.
The Swedish actor is best known to many viewers as Pennywise in It, It: Chapter Two and It: Welcome to Derry. He joins a cast that already includes Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe. Xbox said Kojima also showed a new cast image and a poster during the presentation.

“I’m delighted to confirm the lead role for PHYSINT will be Bill Skarsgård,” Kojima said in the announcement. “We are both long-time fans of each other’s work, and we’ve decided to embark on this new adventure together.”
Kojima added that he had carried out costume fittings, scans and camera tests with Skarsgård and Fraser earlier this year. He said those sessions gave him more confidence in the project’s direction.
The cast announcement comes shortly after Xbox took over publishing duties from PlayStation. Xbox and Kojima Productions announced the publishing change last week, after PHYSINT was originally unveiled as a PlayStation Studios project in 2024.

PHYSINT remains without a release date. Kojima has described it as an action-espionage game and previously called it the culmination of more than 40 years of his career. The project is being developed by Kojima Productions, with Xbox also working with the studio on OD – KNOCK.
The change in publisher followed reports that PlayStation had dropped the game over budget concerns. That earlier report remains unconfirmed, while the Xbox publishing arrangement is now official.
