Hideo Kojima says Xbox will publish PHYSINT after PlayStation ends collaboration
Hideo Kojima has confirmed the PHYSINT Xbox partnership for his upcoming action-espionage game after PlayStation Studios cancelled its collaboration on the project. The PHYSINT Xbox deal keeps the game in development under a new partner.

In a post on X, Kojima said PlayStation Studios informed KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS in mid-June that it would no longer work on PHYSINT. The game was originally announced as a collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment and is positioned as a new action-espionage title from the creator of Metal Gear.
As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the PHYSINT project. PHYSINT is an important project both to me personally and to KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS.

Kojima said his studio spent the next three months looking for a new partner. He said Xbox shared the studio’s vision for the project, leading to the new agreement.
In the course of seeking advice and pursuing negotiations with people across many fields, we found in XBOX a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future, and we have decided to team up with them once again.

PHYSINT Xbox partnership replaces PlayStation deal
PlayStation Studios said it was stepping away from the collaboration after “careful consideration”, according to Noisy Pixel. The company did not give a specific reason, but said it continued to admire Kojima’s vision and that its relationship with the creator and his independent studio remained strong.
Kojima said PHYSINT is still in development and will continue moving forward. The project remains at an early stage, with no release date or gameplay details announced.
Xbox already works with Kojima Productions on OD
Xbox already partners with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on OD, the horror game being developed by Kojima and filmmaker Jordan Peele. The PHYSINT agreement expands that relationship beyond OD and will also cover film and television projects.
Xbox has not confirmed the game’s final platforms or whether it will be exclusive to Xbox consoles. Kojima’s post confirms the new partnership, but not the release strategy.
The change also leaves the status of the previously expected PlayStation version unclear. Until the partners announce platforms, PHYSINT’s eventual launch plans remain unconfirmed.
