Amazon Games Boss Says 007 First Light Sequel ‘Should Be Made’

Amazon Games general manager Jeff Gattis says a follow-up appears likely if players continue to show an appetite for IO Interactive’s James Bond series.

Amazon Games Boss Says 007 First Light Sequel ‘Should Be Made’

A sequel to 007 First Light has not been formally announced, but Amazon Games general manager Jeff Gattis has suggested that another James Bond game appears increasingly likely following the strong response to IO Interactive's latest release.

Speaking to IGN, Gattis said that the decision will ultimately depend on player demand, but indicated that the early signs are encouraging.

"Trust that we're going to be smart about this," Gattis said. "I mean, it's market appetite. As long as we feel there's a desire for players to have the game, it's safe to say it's going to be made."

Gattis also added that it "seems like a sequel should be made," although this stops short of an official confirmation.

Amazon Games Clarifies Its Comments About Future Bond Titles

The comments follow some confusion over who would handle future James Bond games after 007 First Light.

Earlier this month, Gattis said that Amazon did not create 007 First Light, as IO Interactive’s agreement to develop and self-publish the game was already in place before Amazon gained control of the Bond IP. He added that any sequels would be handled by MGM and, “theoretically,” Amazon Game Studios.

That wording led to speculation that Amazon Game Studios could take over publishing duties for a potential sequel, and also raised questions about whether IO Interactive would remain involved.

Gattis has now clarified that Amazon Game Studios has not been confirmed as the publisher of the next Bond game.

“First of all, let me set the record straight for you,” Gattis said. “I did not confirm that Amazon Game Studios is publishing the next one. Did not say that.”

IO Interactive’s Future With James Bond Remains Unclear

Gattis also praised IO Interactive’s work on 007 First Light, describing the developer as a strong partner and noting that he visited the studio in Copenhagen a few months ago.

However, neither Amazon nor IO Interactive has confirmed whether the Hitman developer will return for a sequel.

The studio has previously spoken openly about its ambitions to build a longer-running James Bond series. Before the release of 007 First Light, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak said the team hoped its younger version of Bond could grow across multiple games, potentially following a similar structure to the studio’s Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy.

007 First Light Has Already Sold More Than 3 Million Copies

The commercial performance of 007 First Light makes a sequel increasingly plausible.

IO Interactive recently revealed that the game has sold more than 3 million copies since its launch on May 27, 2026. The James Bond origin story sold 1.5 million copies within its first 24 hours, making it the fastest-selling title in the studio’s history.

The game is currently available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also planned for release later this year.

For now, Amazon appears keen to let the first game continue building momentum before announcing its next move. However, given its early sales performance and the apparent appetite for more of IO Interactive’s take on Bond, a sequel is looking increasingly likely.
