The figure surfaced as the game’s extended look premiered on Netflix this week, alongside an in-depth profile in the New York Times. Nelson’s 80 hours include the main storyline and some “optional goals with narrative ramifications” — which puts the critical path well short of that figure.
Nelson’s pitch is a game you live in rather than rush through.
“I hope that there will be people that want to get up, have a cup of coffee, shower, get dressed, go out for a little exercise. Interact with some people, explore, maybe get into some trouble. Rob some places, make some money.”

How long is a GTA 6 playthrough?
Roughly 80 hours, on Nelson’s evidence — and that is the “live in it” number, not a speedrun. For scale, the main story of GTA 5 sits around 30 hours, so the campaign alone is a step up.
