The voice of Bart Simpson says The Simpsons will end after Season 40 in 2029

The voice of Bart Simpson says the show ends with Season 40 in 2029. Fox has renewed it that far — but no ending has been announced.

The voice of Bart Simpson believes The Simpsons will end with its 40th season, putting the show’s finale in 2029. Nancy Cartwright, who has voiced Bart since 1987, made the prediction on the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum.

Asked when she thought the show would stop, Cartwright answered with a single word.

“Forty.”

“You think it’ll stop at 40?”

“Yeah,” she said. “It’s my opinion.”

It is, in fairness, an opinion. Fox has renewed The Simpsons through Season 40 — a four-season commitment handed down last year — but no one at the network has announced an ending. Renewals are what legacy sitcoms live on; Scrubs just picked up its 11th.

When will The Simpsons end?

The show just wrapped its 37th season, with Season 38 premiering on September 27. A run through Season 40 would carry it across the 2028–29 television season and past 850 episodes — beyond the 808 it has now, which already hold the Guinness World Record for longest-running animated sitcom. The show has collected 37 Emmys from more than 100 nominations.

Cartwright, 68, said she would happily keep recording for as long as Fox renews the show. She has one condition.

“Is everybody still alive?” she asked. Told yes, she said: “Yeah, we’ll keep going, then.”

The franchise is not winding down meanwhile. The Simpsons Movie 2, the sequel to the 2007 film, is scheduled for cinemas on September 3, 2027.

In the UAE, The Simpsons streams on Disney+, which has carried every season since the platform’s 2022 Middle East launch (subscriptions from AED 29.99 a month). It remains one of the service’s most-watched titles worldwide.

Has The Simpsons been cancelled?

No. Fox has renewed the show through Season 40, which airs in the 2028–29 television season, but has not confirmed an ending. Cartwright’s Season 40 prediction is her own opinion, not an announcement from the network.
