Clark Gregg, who played Agent Phil Coulson in The Avengers and Agents of SHIELD, has shared Marvel’s new Zodiac title card on Instagram, and fans are reading it as a hint that the two worlds are connected. Nothing official backs that up yet.

IGN reports that Marvel announced Zodiac at a New York Comic Con panel with a logo, a 2028 release window and very little else. The only confirmed details are that it’s a spy thriller. Gregg’s post was a share of the announcement, not a statement about his involvement.

What Marvel has said

The logo is the main clue. The “a” in Zodiac contains a small eagle head that mirrors the SHIELD emblem. Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s TV head, told the audience: “For anyone who knows the comics, if you look closely at this title design, you’ll see a few clues about where we’re going.” He added that he couldn’t say more because it’s a secret, and that casting starts “in a couple weeks”.

In the comics, the Zodiac is a criminal organisation whose members are named after star signs. Nick Fury’s brother, Scorpio, is one of them, which is why some fans are hoping Samuel L. Jackson’s Fury turns up. Jackson has already confirmed Fury’s return in Avengers: Secret Wars, but nothing links him to this series.

Why Coulson is back in the conversation

Agents of SHIELD ended in 2020 after Coulson returned from the dead as an android. The series isn’t listed in the “MCU Complete Timeline” section on Disney+, which covers canon films, series and specials, so its place in official continuity remains unclear.

That ambiguity is a sore point. Chloe Bennet, who played Daisy, recently said she’s “still low-key angry” about it, while saying she’d reprise her role if asked. Gregg’s post lands in that gap.

A SHIELD-style logo doesn’t make Zodiac a sequel. As IGN notes, the show could depart from the comics, as the MCU has before. Marvel hasn’t announced a cast, showrunner or setting, and hasn’t said where it will stream.

What else is coming from Marvel TV

VisionQuest arrives on Disney+ on 14 October, with Paul Bettany back as Vision across eight episodes. Daredevil: Born Again will end with its third season. If you’re catching up before Avengers: Doomsday, tbreak’s watchlist covers the essentials.

Is Clark Gregg confirmed for Zodiac?

No. He shared the announcement on Instagram, and Marvel hasn’t said anything about casting beyond Winderbaum’s remark that it begins in a couple of weeks.

When is Zodiac due?

Marvel has given a 2028 release window only. There’s no date, platform or episode count yet.

Is Agents of SHIELD part of MCU canon?

Marvel hasn’t settled it publicly. The show is absent from Disney+’s canon timeline, though its characters appeared in the MCU films.
