Marvel has published an official Avengers: Doomsday watchlist on Disney+, naming 15 movies and TV series to catch up on before the film opens in December.
The studio has spent months describing Doomsday as the moment the MCU resets to “Phase Zero”. It has handed out homework anyway, though not the full syllabus: Marvel does not expect you to rewatch all 38 films released to date, and the list skips Agents of SHIELD entirely.
The full Avengers: Doomsday watchlist
- X-Men (2000)
- X2 (2003)
- Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
- The Avengers (2012)
- Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
- Avengers: Endgame (2019)
- Loki (2021–2023)
- Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
- Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
- Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
- Captain America: Brave New World (2025)
- Thunderbolts (2025)
- The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)
The multiverse picks are predictable enough: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home all deal in the incursion chaos Doomsday will cash in on — the same thread the second trailer pulled, with Doctor Doom raising an army of Sentinels.
The deep cuts and the surprises
The deep cuts are properly deep. Fox’s X-Men (2000) and X2 (2003) predate the MCU itself, and their presence confirms the mutant story Marvel has been assembling — Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have already been drafted to promote Doomsday at D23. IGN flags the reverse surprises too: The Avengers (2012) and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) made the cut even though Endgame recaps most of what they set up.
The omissions are as telling as the inclusions. The Marvels, which deals heavily in incursions, is absent, as is X-Men: Days of Future Past. There are no Guardians of the Galaxy films — that team is disbanded, reformed or sitting this one out.
All 15 projects stream on Disney+ now, gathered on Marvel’s official watchlist page. In the UAE, VOX Cinemas lists Avengers: Doomsday for December 17 — a day ahead of the December 18 global release. Avengers: Secret Wars follows in 2027.
Who plays Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday?
Robert Downey Jr. plays Doctor Doom. The casting was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2025, and the film’s trailers have shown his Doom in action, including raising an army of Sentinels.
Is Avengers: Doomsday the last Avengers film?
No. Marvel has confirmed Avengers: Secret Wars as the follow-up, scheduled for 2027. Doomsday and Secret Wars together close out the Multiverse Saga.
Do I need to watch all 38 Marvel movies before Avengers: Doomsday?
No. Marvel’s official list narrows the essential viewing to 15 projects, hosted on Disney+. It includes the two Infinity Saga Avengers films, the multiverse-era picks such as Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Fox’s X-Men and X2 as deep cuts.
