Why is Secret Wars the only MCU movie dated for 2027?
Marvel says it is keeping the 2027 theatrical slate clear so it can concentrate its resources on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel Studios left San Diego Comic-Con 2026 without announcing another MCU film for that year. The current schedule therefore runs from Doomsday on 18 December 2026 to Secret Wars on 17 December 2027, creating a gap of roughly 12 months between theatrical MCU releases.
Kevin Feige told Empire that the decision reflects a strategy of “focusing on quality”. He said a high volume of projects can leave the studio spread thin, adding that Avengers is “as important as it comes”.
The shift follows Disney’s 2024 announcement that Marvel would reduce its output to two or three films and two television shows per year. One MCU film across the whole of 2027 is an even leaner cinema schedule than that broad target, although another project could still be added later.
