Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is getting its first live-action adaptation. According to Variety’s exclusive, See-Saw Films, the company behind Slow Horses and Heartstopper, will co-produce a live-action series with Miraculous Corp. Both companies are part of Mediawan.

The producers say the series targets a “broad and older audience” while keeping the franchise’s existing fanbase. Emme Hoy is adapting it. She wrote and co-executive produced season two of Sweetpea and has written several episodes of the BBC’s upcoming espionage series Honey. Her other credits include Renegade Nell and He Had It Coming.

No cast, release date, episode count or platform has been announced. Mediawan Rights will handle worldwide sales, so a broadcaster or streamer deal is the next thing to watch.

What the producers say

The animated series follows Marinette and Adrien, classmates in Paris who secretly fight crime as Ladybug and Cat Noir, without knowing they’re the same pair. Maria Nicholson, executive producer at See-Saw Films, said live action lets the story “breathe” and “hurt”. She described the aim as “the emotional intimacy of a great romance and the scale of a genuinely epic superhero story”.

Heath Kenny, Chief Content Officer at Miraculous Corp, called the project “a defining next step for the franchise”. Miraculous Corp is the joint venture Mediawan formed in 2024 with Zag Entertainment, founded by Jeremy Zag. Maria Nicholson, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Simon Gillis and Ben Irving are executive producing for See-Saw alongside Hoy, with Nicky Earnshaw as co-producer.

The franchise behind it

Thomas Astruc, Jeremy Zag and Nathanaël Bronn created the animated series, which debuted on French TV in 2015. Mediawan Kids & Family distributes it in more than 150 countries, and it streams or airs on platforms including Disney Channel, Disney+, Netflix, Globo and TF1. It’s in its sixth season, and season seven is set for a late 2026 launch.

Variety reports that the series recently ranked first among more than 850 school-age titles tracked worldwide by Parrot Analytics. The franchise also claims 54 million YouTube subscribers, more than 55 billion lifetime views and an average of 900 million monthly views. A spin-off film arrived in 2023, and a new live stage show is due to launch worldwide in 2027.

Live-action versions of animated and anime properties keep arriving, from the Naruto live-action movie’s worldwide casting search to this one. Casting will be the first real test here, since the leads are teenagers with a decade of fan expectations attached.
