Pixel 11’s Pixel search: one search bar for your photos, email and Drive
The Pixel 11’s new Pixel search is a unified search field in the app drawer that finds photos, calendar events, emails and Drive files alongside apps. Google preinstalls it on the new series, and for now it stays there: 9to5Google reports older Pixel phones do not get it at launch.
What is Pixel search?
Pixel search expands the search bar in the Pixel Launcher’s app grid, which previously covered Clock, Contacts, Pixel Tips, Play Store, Settings and Wallet. On the Pixel 11 the list grows to Calendar, Drive, Files by Google, Gmail, Messages, Photos and Pixel Screenshots, and results come back in one pass — a search for “birthday” surfaces the lunch invitation, the gift-list spreadsheet and the photos on a single screen.
The feature ships as a Play Store update to the launcher rather than part of the system, so Google can improve it without waiting for a feature drop. The same app is appearing on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra, which Droid Life found on its review units. Whether older Pixels get it is not confirmed.
The drawer, not the homescreen bar
The unified search sits in the app drawer, not the homescreen search bar, which Google handed to AI Mode in the Google app last December. So the one-tap search most people reach for still searches the web rather than the phone. Android Authority confirms the utility is exclusive to the app drawer version.

The launch thread on r/GooglePixel drew 40 upvotes for the post itself, from u/MagicPenguinX:

The verdict: the feature is welcome, and the drawer placement, the AI Mode takeover of the homescreen bar and the Pixel 11 exclusivity are not.

You can switch integrations on and off in settings, and set specific accounts for Drive and Gmail if you use more than one.
Will Pixel search come to older Pixel phones?
Google has not confirmed a rollout. At launch it is exclusive to the Pixel 11 series, with the same app also appearing on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra. A workaround that let older Pixels enable the feature was patched out, so there is no current way to get it on a Pixel 10.
