A man stole dozens of empty Mac mini boxes from a tech company’s office in Tempe, Arizona, leaving the actual computers behind. FOX 10 Phoenix’s original report describes a break-in caught on security cameras at around 2am on 4 October.

The footage shows a man smashing an office window at a business park near University Drive and State Route 143. Rather than fully entering the building, he leans through the blinds and pushes armfuls of Apple computer boxes out through the broken window.

One problem with the haul: the packaging contained no computers.

Employee Curran Rose told FOX 10: “Our computers were right there in front of them. They just steal the boxes instead.” The report does not identify the Mac mini models in the office or give an exact number of boxes taken.

The business escaped losing its computers, but not the damage to its window. Rose described arriving to find smashed glass and said his boss remained shaken by the attempted break-in. He also said nobody was hurt.

The company filed a report with Tempe Police, and the business owner offered USD 1,500 for information leading to the man’s identification and arrest. Those are the circumstances described in the original coverage, not confirmation that police have since identified a suspect.

The incident later appeared in a MacRumors forum discussion. That thread is a pointer to the local reporting, rather than a separate account of the break-in. Despite the Apple connection, this is a local crime story about empty packaging, not a theft of Mac hardware.
