Sony left the comments on for the Phantom Blade Zero State of Play, and the live chat spent the broadcast chanting “no disc no buy”.

The chant is aimed at Sony’s plan to stop producing discs for new PlayStation games from January 2028 — a decision PlayStation has confirmed it is sticking with. Comments on its channels have been a running protest since the July announcement; Marvel’s Wolverine trailer drew the same response when it dropped. Sony says “we don’t see that there will be any negative impact on our business,” per GamesRadar.
Why the Phantom Blade Zero State of Play chat said “no disc no buy”
The Phantom Blade Zero State of Play aired nearly 20 minutes of new gameplay on August 17 — the game’s biggest presentation to date, and the dedicated broadcast S-Game had announced earlier this month. The live chat filled with “no disc no buy” chants and disc emojis, and never let up.
The on-demand video has kept the mood going. Top comments include “Phantom Disc Zero” and “I’ll buy it when it comes out in physical format.”
Whether the chant moves anything is another question. Only seven PlayStation games have sold more than 100,000 physical copies in the US this year, per analyst figures cited by GamesRadar. The protest is loud; the disc market is not.
Phantom Blade Zero has no disc edition announced, and pre-orders are digital-only ahead of the October 29 launch on PS5 and PC, per PlayStation Blog. Steam lists the game at AED 219 for UAE accounts; the PS5 standard edition bills at about AED 231 on the UAE store.
When does Phantom Blade Zero come out?
Phantom Blade Zero launches on October 29, 2026, for PS5 and PC. Pre-orders are live now on the PlayStation Store and Steam.
Will Phantom Blade Zero have a disc version?
No physical edition has been announced. Pre-orders are digital-only on PS5 and PC, and S-Game has not confirmed a disc release before or after launch.
Why are PlayStation fans saying ‘no disc no buy’?
Sony announced in July that it will stop producing discs for new PlayStation games from January 2028. Fans who prefer physical media have been flooding PlayStation’s channels with ‘no disc no buy’ comments since.
