Sony still hasn’t fixed a PS6 release date or price, CEO Hiroki Totoki said in a new interview with the Wall Street Journal — the company’s first comment on the console’s timing since May.

The interview mostly covers Sony’s pivot from televisions and Walkmans to movies, music and games. The PS6 line is brief and unambiguous. Discussing the global component shortage and trade wars, Totoki said:

Considering that importance, we need to take some action. Otherwise, we cannot survive in this landscape.

PS6 release date still undecided

Analysts had broadly expected a 2027 launch. The shortage has them rethinking, and Totoki’s latest comments suggest no progress since the company’s May financial call, when he gave the same answer.

We have not yet decided on at what timing we will launch the new console, or at what prices.

What the PS6 price could be

The PS5 Pro sells for $899.99 in the US, and some analysts now suggest $1,000 is the floor for its successor — a figure Sony has neither confirmed nor denied. The company said in June it has no intention of selling next-generation hardware at a significant loss, a stance that points the same way.

Totoki framed the wider moment as existential. “A CEO’s most important task is simply making sure the business survives,” he told the Journal, per Wccftech, as Sony leans into turning game franchises into films and TV.

What it means if you’re buying in the UAE

With the PS6 undecided, the PS5 remains the only PlayStation on sale. The PS5 Disc edition runs about AED 2,249–2,499 on Amazon.ae after this year’s price rises, and the PS5 Pro sits around AED 4,645.

If the PS6 does land at the $1,000 mark, that would translate to roughly AED 3,675 — before UAE retail markup.

Has Sony announced the PS6 release date?

No. Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki told the Wall Street Journal the company still hasn’t fixed a date for the PS6 launch, or a price. Analysts had broadly expected 2027, but the component shortage has them rethinking.

How much will the PS6 cost?

Sony hasn’t decided. The PS5 Pro sells for $899.99 in the US, and some analysts now suggest $1,000 is the floor for the PS6. Sony has said it won’t sell next-generation hardware at a significant loss.

When could the PS6 launch?

2027 was the common prediction, but continued component shortages and memory price rises have pushed Sony to leave the timing open. The company said in May it had enough materials to see it through 2026, with nothing fixed beyond that.
