The inaugural Esports Nations Cup postponed: the national-team tournament will now open in Riyadh in November 2027, a year after its original slot. The Esports Foundation announced the delay on 18 August in a press release, citing “the uncertainty created by the wider regional situation” and consultation with key stakeholders.
The ENC is a biennial, country-versus-country esports competition. More than 100 countries and territories had already secured official partner status, gamesmarket.global reports. Saudi Arabia remains fully capable of hosting events, the foundation says, with major sporting and entertainment occasions continuing as planned; the extra year is about giving national teams, publishers and partners the “certainty and stability” the original window could not.
“The decision to postpone the Esports Nations Cup was not taken lightly,” said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation. “The response from National Team Partners, publishers, players and communities around the world has shown us how much potential this competition has. We owe them an inaugural ENC delivered under the right conditions and at the level this idea deserves.”
