Marvel’s Wolverine PS5 is a month from launch, and the internet has decided it is a joke. Insomniac’s community director has had enough.

James Stevenson, Insomniac’s director of community and marketing, posted on X on Friday that the platform’s algorithm has made him rethink whether developers should engage there at all.

I think the wild way this algorithm amplifies and forces negativity upon you has me reconsidering my philosophy on telling devs to look or post here.

It’s a relentless onslaught that I cannot believe is good for anyone’s mental health nor representative.

Why is Wolverine PS5 getting so much criticism?

The mockery began in earnest after the preview embargo lifted on Thursday. The biggest clip compares Wolverine’s Sentinel boss fight to a sequence from the PS2 game Ben 10: Protector of Earth — 50,000 likes in its original Spanish post, another 70,000 for the English cut captioned “God tier slander”.

A second shows 15 seconds of Logan running forward while someone holds a DualSense’s analogue stick up. A third overlays controller inputs to show a player mashing R2.

Push Square, which rounded up the clips, notes the fight is not especially original — God of War II opened with a similar set-piece — but that the first round of previews was largely positive. The clips’ shared thesis appears to be that the game involves pressing buttons.

The anger is not really about Wolverine. Social media is broadly fed up with PlayStation this generation, and the decision to stop manufacturing physical games is still raw — PS5 boxes now carry a warning that physical games end in January 2028. Insomniac is taking the heat for the platform holder.

The pre-orders tell a different story

For a game being buried alive online, its pre-orders are doing fine. The game sits third on the US PlayStation Store best-sellers list, behind GTA 6 and two editions of NBA 2K27.

Friday night’s D23 sizzle, introduced on stage by Kevin Feige, played to a friendlier crowd. Marvel’s Wolverine PS5 launches 15 September 2026 exclusively on PS5.
