MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 9600 Pro, its first flagship smartphone chip built on a 2nm process. The company claims 17% faster single-core performance, 15% faster multi-core performance and 61% lower multi-core power consumption than the previous generation.
The chip uses an all-big-core 2+3+3 CPU layout, with two C2-Ultra cores reaching 4.55GHz and six C2-Pro cores split between 4.35GHz and 3.1GHz. MediaTek also says the design carries 34.5MB of cache and supports LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage for the first time in a mobile chip.
MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro puts on-device AI first
The Dimensity 9600 Pro pairs a 10th-generation NPU 1090 with a second-generation low-power NPU. MediaTek says the high-performance unit delivers 51% higher LLM prefill performance, while the chip can run on-device models with up to 30 billion parameters. The lower-power NPU is designed for always-on AI tasks with 40% lower power consumption.
The company is also pitching the chip for phones that can analyse device data and offer proactive assistance without sending every task to the cloud. Those features will depend on how phone makers implement the hardware, rather than appearing automatically in every Dimensity 9600 Pro handset.
Gaming and camera features
The G2-Ultra NX GPU claims 27% higher peak performance, 24% lower power consumption at matching peak output and 18% faster ray tracing. MediaTek says supported games can reach up to 185fps, although that figure will depend on the title, display and phone configuration.
The Imagiq 1290 ISP supports 4K video at 240fps for slow motion, alongside 4K60 AI True Colour Tone and 4K120 cinematic log recording. MediaTek has not announced which phones will use the chip, their UAE prices or local release dates.
