Google Messages, Phone, and Contacts are getting new icons: blue gradient glyphs of a handset, two speech bubbles, and a person on white circles. Google says the refresh started rolling out on 2 November.
The new icons use “updated curvature and coloring” to match Google’s gradient G logo. Google calls them “sharper and clearer,” with “a subtle but crisp gradient with easily readable edges.”
9to5Google notes that the three apps’ general shapes haven’t changed, and Google says the same of their features:
Don’t worry, the functionality of these apps isn’t changing as a result of the new icons. You’ll simply spot a sleeker, more cohesive look on your home screen in the coming weeks.
Google, in its announcement
The icons will arrive through Play Store updates, and they’re already live in the latest Google Messages beta. They should also appear on contacts.google.com and the web version of Messages.
Earlier this year, Google redesigned its Workspace and Pixel apps, and it also redesigned the Google app’s search bar. Google Messages also added Gemini scam detection, and Samsung is moving Galaxy users to Google Messages, so its new icon will reach more home screens.
