Android Authority reports OpenAI is adding GPT-6.1 Terra to ChatGPT Dots, which will pick the model for each task themselves.
A Dot can even switch models partway through a job, so users never pick one. According to Android Authority, Terra promises faster performance and a friendlier personality, while helping OpenAI bring Dots to more users.
Thibault Sottiaux, who works on Codex and ChatGPT at OpenAI, shared on X that the company is expanding the lineup of models behind Dots, which already run on GPT-6 Astra.
OpenAI hasn’t explained how a Dot decides which model to use, or whether you’ll be able to override it. We also don’t know when the change rolls out, which plans will get it, or how Terra performs on benchmarks.
OpenAI launched Dots on 29 September as agents that keep working between conversations. Each one runs on its own cloud computer and brings results back for you to review. They also remember what you’re working on: plan a holiday, and a Dot keeps track of your budget, destinations, and dates.
OpenAI is rolling Dots out gradually to eligible Pro and Business Premium users aged 18 and over in supported markets. At launch, Pro access excluded the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK, and Enterprise got a beta that’s off by default.
Pro subscribers in the US can now text a Dot through Google Messages on Android or iMessage on iPhone, in a preview.
