OpenAI Dots are always-on AI agents that run on OpenAI’s cloud infrastructure and connect to more than 4,000 apps. Announced at DevDay, they are powered by GPT-6 Astra and are rolling out to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets, with a beta for Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare workspaces.
The service puts OpenAI in the same personal-agent race as Meta’s Muse assistant, but gives each Dot its own browser and cloud computer. The Verge’s launch report says users can also reach a Dot through ChatGPT, Slack and Microsoft Teams, with text messaging support planned.

The agents can work across several projects, send progress updates and ask questions as they go. Users can check the Dot’s computer while it works, rather than waiting for a finished answer with no view of the steps in between.
Dots also learn from feedback and can look for ways to help in the background. OpenAI calls this “proactive research”; that background work is restricted to read-only access to connected apps, according to The Next Web’s report. A Dot can be asked to do work such as reviewing customer feedback, preparing software updates or turning an interview transcript into clips and social copy.

OpenAI Dots access starts with Pro and Business Premium
OpenAI is rolling out Dots to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium subscribers in eligible markets, with the first Dot included at no extra cost. Business Premium access is available across supported ChatGPT regions. Pro access is more limited at launch: The Next Web reports that the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK are excluded for now.
Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare customers can access a beta when a workspace administrator enables it. OpenAI is also piloting specialist Dots for businesses, each with its own identity and credentials for a defined role. The company is working with Microsoft to bring those specialist agents to Agent 365.
The initial product is built around one general-purpose assistant rather than a team of agents. OpenAI says teams of Dots are a longer-term plan. Conversations with a Dot do not count towards ChatGPT usage limits, though tasks it starts in Codex or ChatGPT Work do.
How OpenAI Dots handle permissions
An always-on agent needs access to accounts and services to do useful work, which makes control more than a settings-page detail. OpenAI says Dots have built-in rules for when to act independently, plus Custom Rules that can allow, block or require approval for particular actions. An auto-review step checks whether actions comply with those rules and safety requirements.
Some sensitive tasks remain with the user. The Next Web reports that a Dot may prepare a password change but cannot complete it on its own. OpenAI says users can monitor the agent’s work and that the agent’s computer remains separate from a personal computer unless the user chooses to connect them. The launch follows Meta’s release of Muse, which can browse the web, prepare documents and take actions across connected services. For UAE subscribers, OpenAI has not published a country-by-country Dots rollout list in the sources reviewed. Pro access is limited to eligible markets, so availability should be checked in ChatGPT; Business Premium is listed for supported regions. No UAE-specific price or separate add-on fee has been announced.
