Why hasn’t Sony remastered Bloodborne?
Sony has not publicly explained why Bloodborne remains without a remaster, PS5 upgrade, or PC version.
Asked about the game’s status in an interview with GamesRadar+, former PlayStation Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said he did not know the reason and described it as “a complete mystery”.
Yoshida’s answer carries weight because of his former position, but it does not reveal what current PlayStation leadership is planning.
Sony controls Bloodborne as the publisher and IP owner, while FromSoftware developed the game. No verified technical, commercial, or organisational explanation for the lack of a port or remaster has been disclosed by either company. Suggested obstacles involving the engine, codebase, or development resources remain speculation.
What version of Bloodborne is available?
Bloodborne remains officially available as the original PS4 game, with PS5 access provided through backward compatibility.
| Platform | Official status |
|---|---|
| PS4 | Original version, released in 2015 |
| PS5 | PS4 version through backward compatibility, with no dedicated PS5 enhancement |
| PC | No official version announced or released |
The PS4 version targets 30fps and has not received an official patch adding a 60fps mode or an enhanced resolution. Running it on PS5 does not provide a native PS5 build, updated graphics, or a dedicated set of PS5 features.
The only major expansion is The Old Hunters, released in 2015. Sony and FromSoftware have not announced a further expansion, sequel, remake, or remaster.
Does Yoshida’s comment make a remaster more likely?
Yoshida’s comment does not indicate that a Bloodborne remaster or PC port is in development.
There is no announcement, release window, or supported indication of an active project in his remarks. His uncertainty instead underlines how little public information exists, even after Sony brought games including Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part I, and Ghost of Tsushima to PC.
Bloodborne’s continued absence from that catalogue is therefore conspicuous, but absence alone cannot establish Sony’s intentions. Until Sony or FromSoftware announces a project, the official position remains unchanged: the PS4 release is the only available version, and Yoshida does not know why it has stayed that way.
