Crimson Desert Switch 2 Release Window: First Half of 2027

Pearl Abyss says its Switch 2 port of Crimson Desert is playable at a foundational level, with a release targeted for the first half of 2027.

Pearl Abyss says its Switch 2 version of Crimson Desert is now “playable at a foundational level”, with a release targeted for the first half of 2027.

The update came in the studio’s latest earnings letter, alongside a familiar caveat: nothing is confirmed until the port meets the company’s quality standards.

“In the case of Switch 2, while optimization is required, the game is currently playable at a foundational level, and technical evaluations are underway to ensure performance optimization and compliance with our quality standards. While it is difficult to confirm a definitive launch schedule at this time, we are working toward a release targeted for the first half of 2027.”

Chief executive Heo Jin-Young flagged the same caution in July, when the port was still at research stage: platform expansion for Crimson Desert “is not just a simple port”, and the question is whether the graphics, action and open world survive on the hardware. Pearl Abyss will announce a date through official channels once the details are finalised.

The reservations are earned. Crimson Desert launched on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in March and sold five million copies in less than a month, but it is a demanding game on every platform. Push Square’s PS5 review called the launch build’s performance “really poor” — tbreak covered the 120Hz blur issue that followed — and Digital Foundry’s analysis, via Wccftech, expects the Switch 2 to land closer to the Xbox Series S, which runs the game’s performance mode at 720p with low settings across the board.

The Switch 2’s DLSS support can recover resolution, but the CPU is the likely bottleneck. Digital Foundry says dense settlements such as Bug Hill may need NPC counts cut, in the manner of The Witcher 3’s heavily reworked Switch port. A 30fps target with reduced settings is the realistic outcome, assuming the port clears Pearl Abyss’s bar at all.

Crimson Desert is already available in the UAE on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Switch 2 owners get the same game no earlier than the first half of 2027, and Pearl Abyss is not committing to a date until the optimisation work is done.

Why performance is the concern

The Switch 2 sits between the Steam Deck and the Series S in raw power, and Crimson Desert pushed the Series S to low settings at 720p in its performance mode. DLSS on the Switch 2 compensates for the resolution drop, but CPU-heavy scenes — the crowded settlements that give the world its texture — are the part developers cannot upscale away.

When the Crimson Desert Switch 2 version could release

The earnings letter names the first half of 2027 as the working target. Pearl Abyss describes the port as playable but still under technical evaluation, so the window can move. The studio says it will confirm a schedule once the version meets its quality standards.
