The Apple Intelligence storage requirement can now reach 14GB on some newer Apple devices, up from 8GB after the iOS 27 update. That is space reserved for on-device models before users add photos, apps and the usual collection of screenshots they meant to delete.
Apple’s support document lists the 14GB requirement for the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air. Other supported iPhones need up to 8GB for Apple Intelligence, while Apple Watch needs up to 1.5GB.
Apple Intelligence storage reaches 14GB on selected devices
The larger footprint is linked to Apple’s more capable on-device models. The extra storage supports features including Siri AI voice customisation and improved dictation accuracy, according to 9to5Mac.
Apple’s document does not name the iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone Duo, which were not listed when the support page was published. The Mac Observer notes that the page’s wording refers to iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro models “and later”, pointing towards the same 14GB tier for newer models, but Apple has not stated that directly.

What the iOS 27 requirement means for iPhone buyers
The storage is used by the downloaded on-device models, so it is not the same as a permanent 14GB reduction shown as a single app. The amount can still be meaningful on a lower-capacity phone, particularly after iOS has taken its own space and a user has a large photo library.
iOS 27’s Siri AI features and supported iPhones already vary by device, language and region. Apple says the device language and Siri language must match, and some features are not available in every language or region. That includes the UAE, where buyers should check the feature list rather than assume every Apple Intelligence function is available in English or Arabic.
The requirement also gives storage tiers more weight when choosing a new iPhone. Apple’s UAE iPhone 18 Pro pricing and specifications are already covered, while Apple’s current support page sets the 14GB figure for the named Pro and Air models and keeps 8GB as the ceiling for other supported iPhones.
