iOS 27 lands on 14 September: Siri AI, every supported iPhone, and the UAE catch

iOS 27 arrives on Monday, 14 September, as a free update, and it is the release Apple has been promising that finally ships a rebuilt Siri. If you are about to pre-order an iPhone 18 Pro it will be on the phone when you open the box. If you are keeping the iPhone you already have, the question is whether the headline feature will work for you at all.

Here is what lands on Monday, which iPhones get which parts, and whether it is worth installing on day one. For prices on the new hardware, our Apple UAE price roundup has every AED figure Apple confirmed.

Siri AI is the whole story

The rebuilt assistant is called Siri AI, and Apple developed it with help from Google’s Gemini models — an admission of where the last two years went. It gets its own app, and you can also pull down from the Dynamic Island on the Home Screen to summon it, which is the first genuinely new Siri gesture since the side button.

The important caveat is that Siri AI ships as a beta, and at launch it works only on devices set to English. Apple says French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish will follow in October.

Arabic is in neither wave, and Apple has not given a date, and it is the single biggest reason to temper expectations before Monday. Run your iPhone in English, and you get everything; switch it to Arabic, and the marquee feature isn’t available.

Which iPhones can install iOS 27

The compatibility list is unusually generous. iOS 27 runs on:

  • iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max (preinstalled)
  • iPhone 17, 17e, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air
  • iPhone 16, 16e, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)

An iPhone 11 from 2019 getting a 2026 release is seven years of updates, and it remains the strongest argument for buying an iPhone over the alternatives in this market, where phones are held for a long time and resale value matters.

But the AI features need much newer hardware

Installing iOS 27 is not the same as getting Siri AI. The Apple Intelligence features — Siri AI included — are limited to:

  • iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • All iPhone 16 models and later

So an iPhone 15 or 15 Plus, bought new less than three years ago, installs iOS 27 and gets none of the AI. MacRumors reports a further tier inside that list: only the most powerful on-device model, which runs on the iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air, supports every Siri AI feature, including the more expressive voices and the more accurate dictation.

If that tiering is what pushes you to upgrade, the iPhone 18 Pro is AED 5,099 and the 18 Pro Max AED 5,499, both starting at 256GB, on sale here on Friday, 18 September. The iPhone Duo follows on 23 October for AED 8,499.

What else is actually in it

Siri has taken all the attention, but the rest of the release is the part you will notice every day:

  • Performance — Apple is claiming faster app loading across the board, including on older supported iPhones.
  • Design updates — a continuation of the visual refresh rather than a reinvention.
  • Parental controls — rebuilt to be easier to set up, which is the most requested fix from parents I hear from in the UAE.
  • Visual Intelligence and in-app AI editing — available on the same restricted device list as Siri AI.
  • Connectivity and search improvements — smaller changes, but they touch the things you do constantly.

Should you install it on Monday?

If you have an iPhone 16 or newer and you run your phone in English, yes — the whole point of the release is on your device, and there is no reason to wait.

If you are on an iPhone 13 or 14, iOS 27 is a performance and housekeeping update, and there is no rush. Waiting a fortnight for the first bug-fix release costs you nothing. If your phone is set to Arabic, there is no urgency at all

One practical note: if you are collecting a new iPhone 18 Pro on 18 September and plan to transfer from your old phone, update the old phone to iOS 27 first. Migrating from an older iOS version works, but the direct device-to-device transfer is smoother when both are on the same release.

How to install iOS 27

  • Back up first — iCloud or a computer; either is fine, but do it.
  • Charge above 50% or stay plugged in.
  • Go to Settings > General > Software Update and tap Update Now. Expect the download to be slow on Monday evening UAE time, when the rest of the country is doing the same thing.
  • If Siri AI does not appear afterwards, check Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri — on a supported device, it must be switched on, and the device language must be English.

When exactly does iOS 27 arrive in the UAE?

Apple releases iOS updates at 10am Pacific, which is 9pm Dubai time on Monday, 14 September. The rollout is worldwide and simultaneous — there is no separate UAE date.

Is iOS 27 free?

Yes. Every iOS release is a free update for supported iPhones, and iOS 27 supports models from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone SE (2nd generation).

Does Siri AI work in Arabic?

Not at launch. Siri AI is English-only in the initial beta, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish following in October. Apple has announced no date for Arabic.

Will iOS 27 slow down my older iPhone?

Apple is claiming the opposite for this release — faster app loading, including on older supported models. As always, the AI features are the ones absent on older hardware rather than the ones that tax it.

Do I need iOS 27 for the iPhone 18 Pro?

It ships preinstalled. If you are transferring data from an older iPhone, update that phone to iOS 27 first for the smoothest device-to-device migration.
