Chinese TV panel makers are raising TV panel prices ahead of the year-end buying season, adding cost pressure for brands that are already building inventory for Black Friday and Christmas.

BOE, TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology (TCL CSOT) and HKC Display Technology have notified customers of LCD price adjustments, according to The Elec. BOE’s new prices will apply from the fourth quarter, while TCL CSOT and HKC plan increases on some products from September.

TV panel prices are rising as makers control supply

The timing leaves TV brands with less room to delay purchases. Manufacturers typically secure panels from August and September for sets aimed at the year-end sales period, when retailers begin planning Black Friday and Christmas promotions.

The increases are not being driven by a sudden demand surge. Some Chinese LCD production lines are running at about 70% utilisation, according to industry estimates cited by The Elec. Panel makers are instead limiting output rather than flooding the market with cheaper stock, a familiar move in a cyclical business that has spent years dealing with oversupply.

Omdia said in 2024 that Chinese manufacturers controlled 70% to 85% of the 65-, 75- and 85-inch LCD TV panel market, while their share of ultra-large panels approached 100%. That concentration gives BOE, TCL CSOT and HKC more leverage when they choose to defend prices, even while overall demand remains measured. Omdia’s market breakdown also shows why larger televisions are especially exposed.

What TV panel prices could mean for shoppers

Higher panel costs do not automatically translate into an immediate one-for-one increase on shop shelves. TV brands and retailers can absorb part of the change, adjust specifications or trim promotions, particularly on older stock. Newer and larger LCD televisions are more exposed because the panel is a bigger part of the bill.

UAE shoppers may therefore see fewer unusually deep discounts or higher prices on some large-screen models as retailers replenish stock for the final quarter. There is no confirmed UAE retail price change in the cited reports, so that remains a possible knock-on effect rather than a local announcement.
