Warner Bros has pulled a Supergirl behind-the-scenes featurette from YouTube after viewers flagged what appeared to be AI-generated concept art for Lobo.
The video, titled “Lobo – DC Dream Behind The Scenes”, showed director Craig Gillespie and Jason Momoa reviewing Lobo designs on a laptop. The Supergirl AI concept art appeared on screen only briefly and at a distance, but the soft, blurred rendering was enough for the comments section to draw its own conclusion. The featurette was gone within hours, and IGN says neither Warner Bros, DC Studios nor Gillespie has commented on the removal.

The timing is awkward for a studio that has spent years positioning itself against generative AI. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn rejected AI-generated film work in 2023 and mocked AI-generated Batman images on Threads in 2025. DC Comics president Jim Lee was blunter at New York Comic-Con last October:
“DC Comics will not support AI-generated storytelling or artwork. Not now. Not ever.”

Supergirl’s already difficult year
The AI row lands on a film that had a rough run. Supergirl took $124 million worldwide against a $170 million budget — among the lowest grosses for a DC adaptation — and IGN’s review scored it 6 out of 10. The Hollywood Reporter also reported creative clashes, with sources saying the studio and Gillespie were “not creatively aligned” and that competing cuts were tested months before release.
The DCU is not slowing down. James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow, which brings back Milly Alcock’s Supergirl, remains in the works, with Warner Bros Discovery chief David Zaslav telling Deadline:
“A handful of recent films have underperformed expectations. Media is, by nature, a business full of hits and misses.”

The pulled featurette, per The Direct, is still available in the Extras of the film’s digital release. Whether it stays there is a separate question.
