South Park Season 29 is changing its name to South America, with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone using the joke to target Donald Trump’s renaming campaign and Apple and Google’s willingness to follow it.
Why South Park is now South America
The fake rebrand was announced in a statement attributed to Parker and Stone: “Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount – a Skydance Capitulation.” IGN reported the announcement, while The Guardian covered the wider political joke.
The line refers to Trump’s attempts to rename geographic features and places, including the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario. Apple and Google changed the way those names appeared in their US-facing mapping services after Trump’s administration pushed the alternatives.
The show’s new promotional graphic keeps the “South” part of the original sign and replaces “Park” with “America”. The title change is a joke, not a permanent rename of the series.

Season 29 premieres on 16 September at 10pm ET/PT on Comedy Central and arrives on Paramount+ the following day. The season is set to run for six episodes, with new episodes scheduled every two weeks through 25 November.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone have used the show’s production schedule to respond quickly to current events before. Season 29 follows a shorter fifth-episode run for Season 28, which ended in December.
